How to Use This Toolkit

This Brightspace toolkit includes sample assignments, discussions, and supporting materials drawn from the following SUNY Empire courses:

  • DIGA-3065: Media Arts
  • DIGA-3025: Advanced Web Design
  • DIGA-4999: Capstone in Digital Media Arts
  • DIGA-3036: Ethics of Digital Arts and Design
  • DIGA-3040: Digital Storytelling
  • COMM-3027: Data Visualization
  • COMM-3002: Digital Communication Careers and Culture Advanced
  • COMM-3015: Social Media: Communication and Culture

In addition, two assignments were developed specifically for this toolkit to address key areas of metaliteracy and AI integration, including an introductory reflective writing activity and a culminating reflection and future learning plan.

The examples are organized by module and presented through an AI + metaliteracy framework. Many include rubrics, and some include supplemental resources (for example, guidance on using AI tools, finding images, or using openly licensed media).

After you copy the cartridge into your LMS, you can modify and adapt these examples to fit your discipline, course outcomes, and student needs. You might:

  • Swap the topic or content area while keeping the same metaliteracy roles and reflection prompts
  • Adjust the tool recommendations to match what your students have access to
  • Edit criteria in the rubric to align with your program expectations
  • Add or remove scaffolding (templates, checklists, examples) based on student readiness
